A message from Jill Staton Bullard

What a couple of weeks- cold, wet and icy, and here we are – snowed in again.  I just had scrambled eggs for breakfast, with toast and coffee. How very fortunate I am and how very grateful I feel.

But I know that there are 40,000+ seniors in the Triangle who might not be as fortunate as I am today. They are part of why we worked like crazy yesterday to get food to shelters serving the homeless, and grocery bags delivered to subsidized senior living centers.

When extreme weather is coming, we concentrate on getting as much healthy food out to the most vulnerable, including our homebound seniors. As volunteer Gail Christensen points out, we do make a difference in many lives.

HEAT or EAT?
A Frightening Choice


As temperatures drop, many NC seniors face a horrible decision: Do I buy food or pay the heating bill?

Thankfully, help is available. Seniors who don’t have enough to eat can receive nutritious food from our Mobile Markets and Grocery Bags for Seniors program. Watch as Florence tells you about the difference IFFS made at the senior living center she calls home:

Building Community Through Food

IFFS is launching a Learning Garden and the Seed To Supper beginner gardening program in a Southeast Raleigh food desert this Spring, thanks in large part to a seed grant from the Jamie Kirk Hahn Foundation. Katie Murray, IFFS Raleigh Food Security Coordinator, shares her insights and observations on how growing food builds community.

The Farm Must Go On

Even when the snow falls and the roads are slick, our Teaching Farm staff reports to work to care for our many chickens and goats. Enjoy some of the photos they took during our recent snowy weather.
