When the pandemic hit, Valerie saw her community take on additional struggles, including job loss, health scares, and food shortages. Garden Grows Sense of Community for Neighbors Living in Transitional Housing
How does a collection of temporary residents in a transitional housing project become a community of neighbors? For the Hotel to Home bridge housing program of Reinvestment Partners, the effort to do so centers on a garden—or more specifically, two garden beds. The garden beds were built a year ago by staff and volunteers of Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s Gardens For Everyone project at the Carolina Duke Inn in Durham.

Rain or shine, Martin Street Baptist Mobile Market helps feed families - one neighbor at a time
Rain came down in sheets and flash flood alerts blasted across cell phones as volunteers at Martin Street Baptist Church made hurried arrangements to move preparations for Saturday’s Mobile Market indoors. Cars had been lining up since 8:30 a.m. When the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle truck arrived at 9:00 to unload 10,000 pounds of produce, meat, and baked goods, the team of workers stood ready to sort, pack, and distribute food to the nearly 250 families who depend on the Mobile Market the second Saturday of each month.

Every Tuesday, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle delivers over 4,000 pounds of food to Iglesia Hispana Emanuel for their weekly food distribution. The church community relies on the donation to serve the vast number of families it feeds each week. Love, Tito’s Block to Block program funds new greenhouse, increasing produce for neighbors in need
The most recent project with Inter-Faith Food Shuttle includes the construction of a new greenhouse at the Food Shuttle Farm. In 2020, the Love, Tito’s program provided funding to support the first part of the greenhouse project, following up in 2021 with additional support to finish the construction of the greenhouse. These donations fully funded the greenhouse and provided continued support for the Food Shuttle Farm’s other agricultural programs.
