We are thrilled that our President and CEO, L. Ron Pringle, selected to participate at the White House’s “Communities in Action: Building a Better NC” series on Thursday, September 22. “While we celebrate the recent announcement by the Biden Administration and the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) that they will provide nearly $1.5 billion in additional funding for emergency food assistance, there is still so much to do”, said Pringle. Through the Communities in Action conference, Ron participated in discussion groups with Cabinet Leaders to share real-life examples, data, and personal stories of local challenges and solutions to hunger.
While in the nation’s capital, Ron was honored to speak with the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Michael S. Regan. While expressing his appreciation for recent accomplishments, Ron leaned in with concerns of rising food costs, transportation, and long-term sustainability. These concerns were well-received by Regan, himself a North Carolina native, who confirmed that this will be a central topic of conversation during an upcoming White House Conference hosting hunger relief organizations from around the country.
This event was another wonderful example of community taking care of community. The White House conference was an opportunity for Ron to advocate for the neighbors served by the Food Shuttle’s programs alongside more than 45 community leaders from across our state, including Wake County Commissioner Sig Hutchinson and Raleigh Mayor Mary Ann Baldwin.
