For eight years our Teaching Farm has been a locus for food-systems education, volunteerism, corporate involvement, and sustainable local produce. But the time has come to repurpose that land, which means the Teaching Farm must relocate.
The wonderful news is that we are moving right next door, just across Dover Farm Road, to an even more beautiful and spacious area. The McNair family has generously offered this property fronting Tryon Road for free from the beginning, and we are immensely grateful for the space to let our farm dreamblossom.
But the time has come to repurpose that land, which means the Teaching Farm must relocate. The wonderful news is that we are moving right next door, just across Dover Farm Road, to an even more beautiful and spacious area. Most importantly, this property is being put into a land trust to protect it from our area’s rapid growth!
On October 5 we broke ground on the new land with help from John Deere and Quality Equipment, LLC. The new location has been a horse farm for 15 years, so we have our work cut out for us getting the soil prepped for vegetable production. The generous folks at Quality Equipment in Fuquay Varina and John Deere in Cary made it possible for us to properly prepare our land for winter’s cover crop. They helped us out with a huge John Deere R7 230Hp tractor that was used to rip up the compacted soil. It was thrilling!

Plans are to reopen the Teaching Farm in Spring 2017 in its new location. Stay tuned for more updates on the planning for “Teaching Farm 2.0”…plus requests for volunteers to help with the move!
