Our Geer Street Learning Garden is a flourishing urban green space located between one of the most vulnerable census tracts and one of the most prosperous business districts in Durham. Geer Street is committed to building resilient community connections and engaging people of all ages in the powerful act of growing local food.
Throughout the year, Geer Street hosts a variety of events and workshops designed to empower, educate, and bring people together.
One of Geer Street’s popular workshops is the four-part Introduction to Spring and Summer Vegetable Gardening series. Participants learn how to design, plant, harvest, and maintain vegetable gardens. Although the April 17th Planting Your Spring Garden workshop is full, the garden will host more opportunities to learn how to garden throughout the year.
Next up at the garden is a family-friendly celebration of spring on April 25th. This event kicks off with a community potluck from 12:00 - 1:00 PM followed by a free compost giveaway, sponsored by Compost Now, from 1:00 - 5:30 PM. Registration is not required, and anyone is welcome to attend! Just bring your favorite lunch dish to share, along with your compost bucket, and head over to Geer Street Learning Garden at 110 E. Geer Street!
