Meet the Durham Community Food Pantry: Expanding Access for our Neighbors in Durham and Orange Counties

At Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, we recognize collaboration as an essential piece of addressing food insecurity. That’s why we prioritize partnering with local agency partners to amplify our impact across our seven-county service area. One of those partners is the Durham Community Food Pantry.

The Durham Community Food Pantry (DCFP), a program of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Raleigh, works to end food insecurity in Durham and Orange counties through a collaborative effort engaging multiple local partners, including Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. Since their founding in 2019, the DCFP has distributed over 1.25 million pounds of food per year.

“The mission of Catholic Charities includes providing help by alleviating the effects of poverty and creating hope by developing solutions to transform lives,” the organization’s website states. As one of our agency partners, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle provides fresh produce, pantry staples, and resources to the Durham Community Food Pantry that they distribute to our neighbors across Durham and Orange counties.

The Durham Community Food Pantry distributes food to about 400 families weekly at three distributions and one monthly mobile market. Families receive non-perishable items, a mixed produce box, and a box of perishable items, including bread, meat, and desserts.

This partnership with the Durham Community Food Pantry highlights our commitment to building a hunger-free community across central and eastern North Carolina. By distributing food and resources through our network of agency partners, we can ensure that our neighbors have access to food at no cost at mobile markets and food pantries across our service area.

We are so grateful for our continued partnership with the Durham Community Food Pantry to increase food access for neighbors in our community! Revisit when our President and CEO, Ron Pringle, stopped by the DCFP for Gratitude Tuesday 2024 below.
