We’re thrilled to share the completion of a new initiative at Camden Street Learning Garden: a self-harvest garden located at the Martin Street access point, designed to nourish both bodies and community spirit.
This newly finished garden features five raised beds planted with easy-to-pick, easy-to-enjoy crops like cherry tomatoes, crisp green beans, vibrant peppers, and fragrant herbs. Positioned right next to the sidewalk, these beds are open to everyone, offering neighbors the opportunity to harvest fresh produce at no cost.
“I walk by the garden every day on my way to work. One morning I picked a handful of cherry tomatoes—they were still warm from the sun. It felt like the garden was giving me a little gift,” said one neighbor who regularly visits Camden Street Learning Garden.
This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to strengthening local food systems by removing barriers to access. Whether someone is walking to work, taking a stroll with their kids, or simply passing by, the garden offers a moment of nourishment and connection, no questions asked.
Much like our Farm Stand at Dover Farm Road, which provides affordable, organically grown produce to our neighbors, the self-harvest beds are a living example of how community agriculture can be both generous and sustainable. These beds aren’t just about growing food, they’re about growing trust, dignity, and shared responsibility.
We invite you to visit the garden, pick what you need, and enjoy the produce of a community that cares. Whether it’s a handful of cherry tomatoes or a sprig of basil for tonight’s dinner, every harvest is a step toward a more food-secure future.
