INTER-FAITH FOOD SHUTTLE’S CHILD HUNGER INITIATIVES FOCUS ON MEETING THE NUTRITIONAL NEEDS OF CHILDREN IN TIMES WHEN THEY NEED IT MOST.
Our INITIATIVES are designed to fill in the gaps on weekends and at home.
Through partnerships with local schools, we help to alleviate child hunger by providing children in need with nutritious and kid-friendly food at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations.
School Choice Pantries tackle child hunger through the provision of food to children and their families. School-based pantries are located on the grounds of schools, or other convenient, familiar, and safe locations for children. A School Choice Pantry is intended to provide a more readily accessible source of food assistance to students and their families.
BackPack Buddies
BackPack Buddies provide children from food-insecure homes with healthy weekend meals during the school year.
School Pantries
The Food Shuttle operates School Pantries in elementary, middle, and high schools in 5 counties.
Because of you, more children will start the school day ready to learn, without the pang of hunger as a distraction. Our Back-to-School campaign reminds us that along with pencils and paper, children need a daily supply of food to take on new concepts, run on playgrounds, and socialize more successfully.
As children return to the classroom, they should be able to focus on learning, not where their next meal might come from. Our programs provide them with food that is fresh, nutritious, and tailored to the unique needs of their families and communities, but we can’t do it without your help. Will you partner with us to erase hunger this back-to-school season?
Food drives support many of Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s hunger relief programs. The shelf-stable items our neighbors donate are packed into Grocery Bags for Seniors, stock School Pantries, provide nutritious meals for Mobile Markets, and so much more. You can help build up the foundation for the foods we provide to our neighbors in need by holding a food drive with your own community—and we’ll help every step of the way!
Now, at the ripe age of 7 years, Charlie has come up with a new way of supporting the hunger relief effort that is so close to his heart. He and his brother, 4-year-old Ford, recruited several of their neighborhood friends to host a lemonade stand to benefit BackPack Buddies. The boys and their friends wanted to do something for their peers going back to school to help them start off on the right foot.
As kids head back to the classroom this August, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is focusing on ensuring that all children have access to the nutritious food they need to grow and thrive. Chiesi USA has partnered with the Food Shuttle for a Back-to-School giving campaign, matching gifts to make an even greater impact of the lives of children like Elijah. From now through August 31,
One in five children in North Carolina are at risk of hunger, but all children deserve to enjoy their summer break without losing access to nutritious food. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is addressing the problem of summer hunger for children in a number of ways.
The story behind Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s mission to end hunger in North Carolina is told in an uplifting and authentic way in the webseries Made In America episode “An American Dream to End Hunger,” which premiered on YouTube on May 19.
Thankfully, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle has supporters who have taken the cause of child hunger to heart and have made a commitment to change this sad reality. Tom Russell Charitable Foundation is one such supporter, having made a recent $100,000 gift to the Food Shuttle to address child hunger head on, through targeted programming and focused partnerships.
John Deere Foundation granted $35,650 to support Inter-Faith Food Shuttle programs that feed, teach, grow, and cultivate a hunger free community right here in central North Carolina.
