Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is expanding its Rural Roots Initiative in Edgecombe County, helping residents grow and prepare fresh food through community gardening, hands-on education, and improvements at Conetoe Family Life Center. Supported by a $260,000 grant from Food Lion Feeds and Food Lion’s parent company, Ahold Delhaize, the project includes a renovated production kitchen, high tunnels for seedling production, refrigerated food storage containers, and materials for raised garden beds. Representatives from the organizations and community members gathered Wednesday, Sept. 9, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the kitchen’s completion, a milestone in the initiative’s continued growth.
