Field Trips
What is a Field Trip at Inter-Faith Food Shuttle?
A field trip is a 1.5-to-2-hour educational volunteer opportunity at our farm location.
Participants are led on an educational tour regarding food systems, crop science, and regenerative agricultural practices for the first 15 minutes. Then, participants experience hands-on field or barn work for one hour. Participants spend the final 15 minutes wrapping up and reflecting on what they have learned.
Volunteer activities are seasonally dependent. Ideal field trip conditions take place in the Spring and Fall while the weather is mild and harvest is at its peak. Summer and Winter feature less farm site activity as temperatures are unpleasant to work in for both plants and humans.
While we cannot guarantee a specific hands-on experience as activities are dictated by the needs of the site, possible activities include:
In-Season: Planting, Mulch, Harvest, Seeding, Pruning, Trellising, Packaging produce, Preparing packaging, Weeding
Off-Season: General cleaning and repairs, Organizing sheds, Taking inventory, Seeding
