Inter-Faith Food Shuttle Picks Up Donated Garden Produce and Delivers to People Facing Food Insecurity in the NC Triangle
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Apr 15, 2012—RALEIGH, NC
RALEIGH, NC—Sun Gro Horticulture is donating one pallet (240 bags) of 8qt. Black Gold Natural & Organic Potting Soil to support Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s Plant a Row for the Hungry program.
Plant a Row for the Hungry (PAR) makes it easy for gardeners to donate fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs from their gardens to people in need. Gardeners grow an extra row earmarked for hunger relief, and deliver their produce to one of several drop-off sites.
IFFS is kicking off its fourth year of the PAR program with twelve promotional events in three cities in the NC Triangle. Each gardener that signs up to plant a row will receive a bag of Sun Gro’s Black Gold Natural & Organic Potting Mix, seeds, and other goodies, and be entered in a drawing to win a permaculture landscaping consultation.
Did you know that in Central North Carolina low-income communities have some of the highest rates of obesity/chronic disease AND hunger in the country—largely due to low access to healthy, fresh foods? Produce from your farm or garden helps provide access to fresh, nutritious food. Last year gardeners donated 20,085 pounds of fresh produce to IFFS through PAR!
