Beef Donation Feeds the Hungry

March 19, 2014 Raleigh--Thanks to Cultured Cow Creamery, 800 pounds of beef—local, grass-based, and certified humanely raised— will now go to local agencies to feed the hungry.

With 40% of America’s food going wasted, one of Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s goals is to redirect healthy food from all channels—including local farms. Cultured Cow Creamery operates a 135 acre dairy in South Durham, just outside of the Research Triangle Park, where they make a cheese every day. Local businessmen Sam Galphin and David Falk own the sustainable operation with a commitment to breeding and milking cows that are considered among the best in the world. Three large wind turbines and a large number of solar panels have been strategically placed around the farm for energy efficiency. Their popular cheeses can be found at stores around the Triangle. http://cultured-cow.com/buy-our-products/

Most of the high-quality, sustainably-raised beef is being donated to CAARE, Inc and Genesis Home, agencies that provide health services, education, and support for low-income and homeless community members in Durham. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle has provided healthy food to these agencies on a regular basis for over a decade. Sam Galphin, a doctor of veterinary medicine, commented on the donation: “All I’ve really ever wanted to do is feed people. We believe making cheese in an environmentally sustainable way is a model that can be replicated almost anywhere.”

Phyllis Coley, publisher and editor-in-chief of Spectacular Magazine, and long-time friends with co-owner David Falk (also owner of Drucker and Falk, LLC) made the connection between the entrepreneurs and Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.

“This is how it works,” said IFFS CEO and co-founder Jill Staton Bullard. “As a community, we can bring our resources together to end hunger.”
