Cooking Matters at the Store comes to Fayetteville
A nutrition education partnership of
Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina
and Inter-Faith Food Shuttle
WHAT: Cooking Matters at the Store is a FREE guided grocery tour that helps low-income families make healthy and affordable choices at the supermarket. Participants practice key food shopping skills such as buying fruits and vegetables on a budget, comparing unit prices, reading food labels, and identifying whole grain foods.
WHO: CCAP’s Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina (SHFB) is offering Cooking Matters at the Store nutrition education to empower families with the skills to stretch their food budgets and cook healthy meals. The program is presented in partnership with Inter-Faith Food Shuttle in Raleigh, the state-wide nutrition education partner of the national organization Share Our Strength, which developed the Cooking Matters curriculum.
Media is invited to join the FREE guided grocery tour. Tour participants have been invited from various social service agencies, and the public is invited as space allows.

Eastern Blvd, Fayetteville, NC WHY: “One of our initiatives this year has been to promote a healthy lifestyle,” states Ron Pringle, Food Bank Director. “Most people know they need to eat healthier, but don’t know how to do that on a tight budget. By partnering with Inter-Faith Food Shuttle to teach Cooking Matters at the Store, we are aren’t just giving the community the tools to shop healthy, but we are actually showing them what to look for and how to get the most out of their budget.”
