Kids are the future; we know that, and what Alexander and William Winslow are doing for the fight to end childhood hunger is paving the way for young innovators like themselves.
It all started in the Spring of 2013, when William explained to his parents his sympathy for the kids at his school who were “food disadvantaged”. He saw that these children weren’t getting enough food through the school’s backpack buddies program to feed them over the upcoming spring break.

William took action and put together a weekend long food drive, partnering with a local restaurant and grocery store. He raised 1,400 pounds of food and $310 for his school’s program. More back packs were sent home that week and no children went hungry, thanks to William.
William’s efforts have grown over the years, and now the Food Drive Kids hold annual food drives to support emergency hunger relief efforts. They have also begun building gardens in order to provide an ongoing food source for those in need.
For this annual food drive, Alexander and William presented the food shuttle with a check for $10,000 and donated 8,600 pounds of food. Over the past 5 years, the Food Drive Kids have raised more than $55,000, collected 43,000 pounds of food, and built 3 school gardens.
This year, William was named a 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community national award winner for his work collecting food and raising money for the Food Shuttle.
These kids have a bright future. Their motto is “Together, we CAN STOP childhood hunger!” and we have no doubt that Alexander and William can do just that.
