WRAL Reporter and Anchorman Ken Smith has joined the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle Board of Directors. His appointment was announced at the October 29 board meeting. Smith, who has been with WRAL since 2000, brings with him many years of award-winning journalism and a commitment to the people of the Triangle and the issues that affect their lives.
As a member of the WRAL news team and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Smith has had several occasions to volunteer with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. He grew up on St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, the fourth of five children, and comes from a family who loves to feed people. “I understand the challenges so many families have with putting food on the table. I want to be part of the solution to providing resources and food to people needing a little extra help,” says Smith.
As for his new appointment to the Board at Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Smith adds, “I look forward to lending my voice, time and energy to the Board of Directors, as we strive to achieve our goals and objectives for our community.”
“I am excited about bring on someone with a deep, personal connection to the issue of hunger and about the opportunity that Ken’s membership brings to get Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s mission out to the larger community,” said Bethann James, the Food Shuttle’s interim President and CEO.
Ken Smith is married to Amanda Bitler Smith, a teacher at St. David’s, and is the proud father of a son, Jamard K. Smith who lives with his own wife and two sons in Pittsburgh, PA.
