Summer Brings Exciting Volunteer Opportunities at the Food Shuttle

Summer is a wonderful time to get outside. If you enjoy tuning into nature and giving back to our community, the Food Shuttle has many exciting volunteering opportunities to choose from!

Gardens for Everyone builds raised-bed garden boxes for neighbors and community organizations in areas of high food insecurity. The boxes provide families with an affordable way to grow and eat delicious, healthy food; our staff and interns support them in caring for their gardens from seed to harvest, all year long. You don’t need to be an expert carpenter to help build Gardens For Everyone garden boxes- you can learn everything you need to know by working with staff and experienced volunteers! Learn more about “digging in” with Gardens for Everyone here.

Volunteer opportunities are also heating up at the beautiful Geer Street Learning Garden! Located in Durham, Geer Street is in need of ‘weekend waterers’ to keep plants hydrated over the weekend. If you are interested in becoming a weekend waterer, please contact our Garden Manager, Mikey Cristiano, at mikey@foodshuttle.org to schedule a training session before your first shift!

On June 29th, Geer Street Learning Garden will be celebrating Pollinator Garden Love Day! This special volunteer project will focus on recognizing the important role that pollinators play in our food cycle and supporting our pollinator garden. Sign up here to enjoy a tour, a morning of garden maintenance, and an art project with our staff!

Whether at our Camden Street Learning Garden in Raleigh, Geer Street in Durham or out in the community with Gardens for Everyone, our gardens offer multiple ways to have fun while also helping others.  Learn about the various opportunities at the Food Shuttle Learning Gardens here.
