This September, during Hunger Action Month, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is asking you to JOIN IN. As the cost of essentials like groceries and energy continues to put pressure on food budgets, everyone can take action to help ensure their neighbors have access to the food they need to thrive.
Hunger Action Day falls on September 29, and throughout the month we’ll raise awareness and encourage everyone to take part in the Food Shuttle Hunger Action Challenge. Complete any 3 challenges & receive a Food Shuttle swag bag! Pick it up at 1001 Blair Drive, Raleigh, NC 27603, from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Hunger Action Day, September 29, 2026! Actions include wearing orange on Tuesdays, volunteering at one of our facilities, answering the Question of the Week on our social media platforms, and donating needed items.

According to the latest data from Feeding America, 278,160 people in our seven-county service area (Chatham, Edgecombe, Durham, Johnston, Orange, Nash, and Wake) experienced food insecurity in 2024, a 13.1% food insecurity rate. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines food insecurity as limited or uncertain access to adequate food. Food-secure households have enough food throughout the year for all household members to live active, healthy lives. Food-insecure households may struggle to meet those needs at different times during the year. Food insecurity is often caused by multiple challenges at once, including low or unstable income, rising food costs, and the high cost of basic needs such as housing, health care, utilities, and child or dependent care.
Throughout September, we’re also focused on our Back-to-School campaign to raise $275,000. Programs like BackPack Buddies and School Choice Pantries are essential to providing food to students and their families beyond school hours because hunger doesn’t stop at the end of the school day. With support from 4 Others Foundation and Chiesi USA, every gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $55,000!
This Hunger Action Month, we’re asking everyone to JOIN IN because fighting hunger takes all of us. Whether you give, volunteer, wear orange, or raise awareness, your action helps fight hunger.
