When school’s out for summer, many of us think of popsicles, pool days, and long hours of sunlight. But for thousands of families in our community, summer break brings something else: stress, worry, and hunger.
During the school year, kids often rely on breakfast and lunch at school. That’s two out of three meals that many families don’t have to stretch to provide. But when summer arrives, that safety net disappears. Parents—and in many cases grandparents—have to find a way to fill the gap.
That’s where the Food Shuttle steps in.
Our No Hunger, Just Summer campaign is a powerful response to the challenges that summer hunger brings. From April 22 to May 31, we’re working to raise $300,000 to ensure kids and families can enjoy summer without worrying where their next meal will come from.
And here’s the exciting part:
Thanks to a $100,000 matching gift from the Biogen Foundation and North Raleigh United Methodist Church, your donation can go twice as far. Every dollar you give will be matched—doubling your impact in the fight against hunger.
How We Show Up All Summer Long
Hunger doesn’t take a break—and neither do we. Here’s how we serve our neighbors throughout the summer:
Mobile Markets & Food Pantries
We bring fresh produce, groceries, and pantry staples directly to neighborhoods where food access is limited. Families can pick up what they need close to home, without barriers.
Grocery Bags for Seniors
Many older adults in our service area are caring not only for themselves, but also for their grandchildren. Our grocery bags help ease the burden, making sure seniors and the kids they’re raising have enough to eat.
Summer Meals for Kids
We meet children where they are—at summer camps, community centers, and neighborhoods—with hot, nourishing meals. Because every child deserves to enjoy summer fun without hunger holding them back.
Fresh Food from Our Farm
It all starts at our farm, where we grow fresh, nutritious produce to distribute through every one of these programs. From the ground to the table, we believe food should be accessible, healthy, and full of dignity.
No Hunger, Just Summer
This is more than a campaign. It’s a promise:
To show up for families. To bring food, dignity, and hope. To make sure no child has to trade sunshine and play for hunger and stress.
