Standing Together Through SNAP Cuts: How Inter-Faith Food Shuttle Is Responding

by | Nov 6, 2025 | Advocacy

Right now, many of our neighbors are facing uncertainty as reductions and delays in federal food assistance programs, including SNAP and WIC, take effect across North Carolina. Thousands of families are reaching out in panic as their benefits run out or shrink, unsure of how they’ll keep food on the table.

At Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, we’re here to ensure that no one faces hunger alone. We work every day to make sure everyone in our community has access to fresh, nutritious food, especially during times like these when federal support is disrupted.

Rather than distributing food directly from our warehouse, we partner with trusted local organizations like community centers, soup kitchens, churches, and schools to get food where it’s needed most. Together, we serve Wake, Johnston, Durham, Orange, Chatham, Nash, and Edgecombe counties, building a network of food access across our region.

Why This Matters

  • 1 in 7 North Carolinians and 1 in 5 children are food insecure.
  • 1.4 million people in North Carolina rely on SNAP benefits.
  • 4 in 5 SNAP households include a child, senior, or person with a disability.
  • More than 80% of people receiving SNAP are working — but still can’t make ends meet.

These numbers are more than statistics. They represent our neighbors, coworkers, and students in our children’s classrooms. They represent people striving to provide for their families in the face of rising costs and reduced support.

If you or someone you know needs food, visit foodshuttle.org/findfood to locate the nearest distribution site. You’ll find details on availability, dates, and contact information for each of our agency partners.

Your action matters. You can make a difference by donating — every dollar helps move more food where it’s needed most. Consider hosting a Food and Fund Drive with your coworkers, school, or faith community to ensure nutritious food reaches every neighbor. Volunteering your time also helps us get food into the hands of neighbors faster. And finally, spread the word — share our mission with others and encourage anyone in need to visit foodshuttle.org/findfood.

Thank you for standing alongside us and our community during this time.
