Originally from Ohio, Beth moved to the Raleigh area around 35 years ago. With a background in psychology, Beth spent time working in the field and even helped develop programming for urgent care facilities focused on mental health services. These facilities, which are still in use today, are a huge help to individuals in our communities who need specialized care.

Post-retirement, Beth wanted to continue spending her time doing something intentional to help others. After seeing the impact of food insecurity on mental health, it seemed like a perfect fit to start volunteering at the Food Shuttle Farm. The past four years working at the Farm have given Beth a community of like-minded friends, as well as a sense of purpose and meaning behind each day. She loves the fact that each day can bring something new – something to learn, a new task to complete, and a new group of volunteers to meet.

In the future, Beth would like to see even more growth at the Food Shuttle so that everyone in our community can access fresh produce and healthy food. One piece of advice from her would be: “Don’t cocoon – do anything! Take the time to get involved with something you are passionate about and find ways to give it back to your community.” Beth has certainly done this with all of her incredible work at the Food Shuttle Farm, and we can’t thank her enough for her dedication and support over the years!

Fun Fact about Beth: Beth is also active in other parts of the community, through her church and pop-up volunteer events. She was part of a team that helped to construct some of the trolls that you can discover throughout Dix Park! If you see Beth, make sure to say hello and ask her about this fun experience!
