Seasonal Farm Production Assistant

The Seasonal Farm Production Assistant is responsible for providing production assistance on the Farm in managing and maintaining crops, equipment, and facilities. This position works closely with Farm staff and volunteers to ensure program goals and needs are met. This position is based at the Farm, but travel to the Malone Center and to other locations in our service area is required as needed.

Internship openings:

Inter-Faith Food Shuttle offers a number of unpaid internships, approximately 3-4 months each, based on the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters (January through May, May through August, and August through December).

Consideration for Summer internships will begin in February, and applications will be accepted until positions are filled.

Farm Intern

(One position) While working at the Farm, the intern will have the opportunity to be involved in many aspects of crop production including but not limited to, seed starting, transplanting, harvesting and processing. The intern will also provide support to the farm operations and functions by helping lead volunteers, stocking produce in the farmstand and other tasks as needed. Minimum age 18.

Gardens Intern

(One position) The Gardens team manages three Learning Gardens. This role will be responsible for working at our Camden Street Learning Garden and our Food Bank Garden. The gardens have a wide range of elements including individual raised beds for community members, pollinator gardens, composting facilities and production-style row crops. The intern will also provide support to the operations and functions of the garden by helping lead volunteers, engaging with community gardeners, and other tasks as needed. Minimum age 18.

Compost Operations Intern

(One position) The intern will work at our Camden Street Learning Garden in Raleigh to support the operations of its Compost Kitchen facility. The Compost Kitchen is a medium-scale composting system that recycles both on-site garden waste and food scraps from the community through a partnership with CompostNow. The intern will play an important role in assisting staff to ensure the on-site composting system operates effectively and actively engages our neighbors.

Human Resources Intern

(One position) The Human Resources Intern works 8-15 hours per week under the direction of the Director of Human Resources to provide administrative support to the Human Resources Department. This role provides an opportunity for individuals to gain practical experience and insights into HR operations in a Non-Profit organization. Enrolled in an undergraduate program at junior or senior level or graduate program. Preferred course of study to include Human Resources, Business Management, Social Sciences, or related fields.

Community Health Education Intern

(No longer accepting applications) This internship is designed to be a valuable training experience in the field of community health and nutrition through increasing knowledge and experience in community nutrition education, program coordination, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Minimum age 18.

Dietetic Intern

(Multiple positions) The Community Health Education Program is open to accepting Food Service Management and Community Nutrition dietetic interns who need supervised learning experience for their dietetic internships through either traditional or distance programs. This internship is a valuable training experience for participants pursuing a career in nutrition, dietetics, and/or public health. We hope the experience will be valuable to participants, in providing them with skills and a broader understanding of issues related to food insecurity in our communities, and the roles of dietitians inside of the food charity system/food banking. Must be accepted into a dietetic internship program or be in the process of applying to a distance dietetic internship program.

Agriculture Education Intern

(Not available Summer 2026) Our Agriculture Education programs engage all age groups in hands-on learning through agriculture education, teaching sustainable farming, gardening, and food systems, integrated into existing community programs. The Agriculture Education Intern will work closely with the Agriculture Team to ensure successful operation of community events and programs, such as Growing School Gardens (GSG), Field Trips, and Workshops. This role provides hands-on learning and community involvement opportunities. Minimum age 18.
