Nonprofit to raise $1 Million with Inter-Faith Food Shuttle
Raleigh, N.C. (Nov. 2, 2017) – Band Together NC, a Triangle-based organization that uses live music as a platform for social change, has announced Inter-Faith Food Shuttle as its 2019 nonprofit partner. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle pioneers innovative, transformative solutions designed to end hunger in our community.
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle (IFFS) distributes 6 million pounds of healthy food, 42 percent of which is fresh produce, in its seven-county service area. The organization feeds people through programs including BackPack Buddies, Mobile Markets, Grocery Bags for Seniors and School Pantries, and by partnering with nearly 200 local agencies to reach people at their point of need.
“The Triangle has a vibrant and thriving nonprofit community,” said Thorne Daubenspeck, executive director of Band Together, “and we are proud to be a part of it and support worthy partners like Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. From all who applied to our finalists, there were many excellent nonprofits doing meaningful work in our community.”
In 2019, Band Together and Inter-Faith Food Shuttle aim to raise more than $1 million through corporate and individual donations, and grants. Proceeds raised during the 2019 partnership year will be used to expand IFFS’s child hunger programs. With the addition of a new warehouse facility, the Food Shuttle will increase its capacity to provide meals for schoolchildren in the BackPack Buddies and School Pantry programs.
“We are excited to join Band Together and expand our work in the Triangle,” said Dave Koch, executive director for Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. “Our partnership will drastically increase the Food Shuttle’s ability to meet demand in the community for the next five years. The Food Shuttle is thrilled with the opportunity to work with Band Together on the project.”
“Through our selection of Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, we continue to focus on helping those most in need in our community,” said Daubenspeck. “The Triangle should be a great place for everyone to live, work, play and raise a family. Almost 272,000 people in Inter-Faith’s seven-county region are unsure of where their next meal will come from, and we believe our work together will strengthen individuals, families and our community as a whole.”
With the success of its 2017 concert, Band Together has donated almost $8 million to local nonprofits since its inception in 2001. In 2018 Band Together is partnering with Triangle Family Services to help address the mental health crisis in our community. Over the past five years Band Together has raised nearly $5.5 million with Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities, Communities In Schools of Wake County and Communities In Schools of Durham County, StepUp Ministry, KidzNotes and the 2017 partner – The YMCA of the Triangle.
Past nonprofit partners have included Urban Ministries of Wake County, Alliance Medical Ministry, StepUp Ministry, The Lucy Daniels Center for Early Childhood, SAFEChild, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle and more. Band Together’s 2017 (current) partner is Triangle Family Services.
