The Board of Directors of Inter-Faith Food Shuttle (IFFS), a local non-profit that works to stem hunger in seven counties in central North Carolina, has announced that its president and CEO, David Koch, is resigning after serving as the organization’s leader for more than four years.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, we thank David for his leadership and wish him well as he moves on to pursue new opportunities,” said Bob Alger, Chair of the Board of Directors. “During his tenure with IFFS, he helped to streamline our operations, strengthen our partner relationships and expand both our staff and resources.”
According to Alger, the Board has hired Bethann James as Interim CEO and she will begin in this capacity on Thursday, August 15. James brings more than 25 years’ experience in non-profit management to this position and has an excellent track record of leading other non-profits through similar transitions. The Board will begin the search for a new President and CEO in September and anticipates having a new leader in place in early 2020.
Throughout his career, David Koch has held senior management positions at health and human services organizations in and around Raleigh, including Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas, American Human Services and Atria Senior Living. Koch has also been active in various non-profits on a pro-bono basis as a board member, volunteer and fundraiser.
“David is leaving Interfaith Food Shuttle very well-positioned and at a time of positive change and growth for the organization,” added Alger. “The Food Shuttle recently approved a new 5-year strategic plan that will enhance our ability to distribute food to those in need, while also strengthening the programs we offer to teach people how to meet their own food needs. The new President and CEO will come on board at an opportune time to lead the implementation of the 5-year strategic plan and identify new ways to create a hunger-free and healthy community.”
Established in 1989 by co-founders Jill Staton Bullard & Maxine Solomon, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is a nonpartisan, 501c3 non-profit organization and a member of the Feeding America National Network of Food Banks. As a Feeding America Food Bank, IFFS recovers and distributes food that it gathers from participating restaurants and groceries across its 7-county area. In 2018, IFFS distributed more than six million pounds of food to low income individuals and families – with 35% of the repurposed food being fresh produce. In addition to food distribution, IFFS empowers people to meet their own food needs through educational programs such as culinary job training, beginner gardening, and cooking healthy on a budget.
