This week, the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle family lost a long-time friend and advocate in the passing of Lottie Moore.
Miss Lottie was well-known among the residents of the Oaks community in North Raleigh, having served as the Resident Council President of the Oaks Community of the Raleigh Housing Authority since 1992. She spent the better part of the last three decades doing all she could to improve the lives of the 170 or so people who live there, as well as residents throughout public housing communities. A big part of that effort was strengthening the relationship between public housing communities and Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. Whether it was a Mobile Market, BackPack Buddies, afterschool snacks, annual back-to-school supplies, nutrition classes for families living on a tight budget, or turkeys and all the trimmings at Thanksgiving—the connection between The Oaks and the Food Shuttle has run deep and made a world of difference for the families of the communities it has served.
In August of last year, Miss Lottie reached out to Elizabeth Rodgers, Agency Relations Manager at the Food Shuttle, and told her that she wanted to express her gratitude to the Food Shuttle staff for all that they had done for her over the years and during a recent time of need. Miss Lottie met with Food Shuttle President and CEO, L. Ron Pringle, and recorded a video sharing her journey with the Food Shuttle and her deep gratitude for the partnership she has enjoyed with the organization. “I didn’t think that sending a card was appropriate. I didn’t think that sending an email was appropriate,” she shared with Ron Pringle. “From my heart, I wanted to look at your face and tell you ‘thank you’, because it took all of you to make it happen.” The video recording was sent out to the entire Food Shuttle staff so that everyone could receive Miss Lottie’s moving message of thanks.
Miss Lottie touched the lives of many as caretaker for her community over the years, including the Food Shuttle staff members with whom she has served. She will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace.
