Community Health Education Dishes Up Nutrition for Parent Engagement Night
The Women’s Club of Raleigh, as part of their Community Service Program, is working with Mount Vernon Middle School, to assess what’s needed to help meet the goals of the school. One of those goals focuses on nutrition and keeping the students and their families healthy. As a means to reach that goal, the Women’s Club reached out to the Food Shuttle and invited the Community Health Education program to be a part of a Parent Engagement Night at Mount Vernon on October 19.
Cooking Matters Provides Sweet Opportunity for Students at Governor Morehead School
The Food Shuttle’s Community Health Education team presented Cooking Matters , a six-week culinary and nutrition education program, for students at the Governor Morehead School. Each week, a team consisting of a volunteer chef and a nutritionist taught about healthy eating and walked students through simple yet delicious recipes.

Community Health Education Initiative Prepares to Launch "Spanish Family Kitchen" Video Series
In an effort to be more culturally inclusive and broaden the reach of the Community Health Education initiative, a “Spanish Family Kitchen” series is currently in the works. The series will not only be presented in the Spanish language, but will feature nutrition information, culturally familiar recipes, and activities relevant to the LatinX community. A summer launch is planned for the online series.
Job Loss, Health Scares, and Food Shortages - Working Together to Provide More Meals for Neighbors in Rural Counties
Valerie Hocutt wears a lot of hats as property manager at Creekridge Apartments and Middlesex Manor in Middlesex, NC. When the pandemic hit, Valerie saw her community take on additional struggles, including job loss, health scares, and food shortages. That’s why it was such a blessing when Jill McKeel and Midpoint Church, through partnership with Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, stepped forward with monthly distributions of food boxes for the families under Valerie’s watch.
