Harvest Workshop

Geer Street Learning Garden is hosting a four-part Introduction to Spring and Summer Vegetable Gardening workshop series. In our first two workshops, participants learned how to design and plant their Spring garden. In this workshop, "Harvesting Your Spring Garden," you'll learn the next steps - how to harvest your garden bounty!


We'll discuss how to properly harvest your Spring crops for a healthy and productive season. The workshop will include an in-garden tour of what’s in season, information about determining crop maturity, demonstration of tools and how to harvest common Spring crops, and a review of how to properly store crops in a food-safe way. While the workshops build on each other, you do not need to have attended any previous classes to register for others.

 

Date: Wednesday, May 22nd, 5:00PM-7:00PM

Location: 110 E. Geer St, Durham, NC - Geer Street Learning Garden.

Parking: See attached parking map. Parking is available across the street on the lawn next to Bull City Cool/Farmer Foodshare or there is free street parking on adjacent Mangum and Roxboro Streets.

Things to bring and wear: Snacks and water bottles, bug spray, sunscreen, hats, pens/pencils, notepads. We'll be outside, so dress appropriately for the weather and with comfortable closed-toe shoes. Mosquitos are common; sleeves and bug spray help. Masks are not required, but please wear your mask if you feel more comfortable doing so. Masks available upon request.

Allergies, please note: Bees and fire ants are present in the garden. Participants with allergies should bring appropriate medication and alert staff members of your allergy.

Planning Workshop

Geer Street Learning Garden is hosting a four-part Introduction to Spring and Summer Gardening workshop series. In our first workshop we'll discuss how to design and plan your Spring vegetable garden. Later in the series we'll learn how to plant, harvest, and maintain your garden!

In this class, participants will learn everything you need to know to plan your Spring vegetable garden. We’ll cover value-based planning, crop seasonality, plant spacing, crop rotation and more. Come learn with us and get your garden off to the right start! The class will be indoors in the Reinvestment Partners conference room.

Date: Wednesday, March 13th, 5:00PM-7:00PM
