Reflecting on Hunger Action Month and the Ongoing Fight Against Hunger

The month of September is recognized by Feeding America and its member food banks, like Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, as Hunger Action Month; an initiative to raise awareness about hunger and inspire action within our communities. While this month has been a time of reflection and awareness, the Food Shuttle believes that the fight against hunger doesn’t end with the culmination of Hunger Action Month. Every day, we strive to feed our neighbors, teach self-sufficiency, grow healthy food, and cultivate innovative solutions to end hunger. With your continued support, we can fight hunger all year long.

On September 10th, we celebrated Hunger Action Day, sporting our orange t-shirts as a reminder that food should not be an impossible choice. From food recovery to volunteer services and much more, each person on our team is dedicated to our mission. Hunger Action Day served as a reminder that the work we do together is crucial in the fight against hunger.

Throughout September, we also focused on our Back-to-School campaign, aiming to raise $200,000 for our BackPack Buddies and School Choice Pantries. These programs are essential in providing food to students and their families beyond school hours, because hunger doesn’t stop at the end of a school day. Thanks to the generous support of Chiesi USA and the 4 Others Foundation, we are able to double the impact of each donation by securing a match of up to $60,000. Our Back-to-School campaign has made a significant impact on addressing hunger in our community during Hunger Action Month this year.

We rely on the support of our community to sustain our programs. Every contribution makes an impact, whether that be through volunteering, hosting a food and fund drive, or donating. Your support helps us provide meals and educational resources for our neighbors. Together, we can reach more families and help break the cycle of hunger.

As Hunger Action Month comes to a close, let’s carry the spirit of action and awareness into next month and beyond. Together, we can continue to advocate for those facing food insecurity and ensure that our community is supported. Let’s keep the momentum going and make a lasting impact, one meal at a time!
