Duke Health Building Healthy Communities Grant Supports Community Health Education

At the Food Shuttle, we focus on providing highly nutritious food, including fresh produce and whole grains, along with support for living healthy lifestyles. To that end, we offer opportunities to participate in joyful movement or physical activity, prepare and eat meals with their families, meal plan and budget, and enhance our neighbors’ favorite recipes.

Our programs emphasize cultural strengths and have diversity, equity, and inclusion views. Our empowering education initiatives are designed to give power back to our neighbors and communities. We look to our communities to be the leaders and voice for what they need, and we support them.

We are thrilled to have the support from Duke Health through the Building Healthy Communities Grant. Duke says, “Our commitment to advance health and well-being of all includes the support of community-based organizations and initiatives." That support has proven essential to building and maintaining community workshops tailored specifically to the needs of individual communities and programs like the Food Shuttle Academy; an online learning platform with courses about health, nutrition and agriculture.

Duke Health shows its deep commitment to the well-being of the community it serves, including and beyond its patients, by supporting these programs. On behalf of the Food Shuttle and the neighbors we connect with every day, we express our deep gratitude for this crucial support.
