Because of you, more children will start the school day ready to learn, without the pang of hunger as a distraction. Our Back-to-School campaign reminds us that along with pencils and paper, children need a daily supply of food to take on new concepts, run on playgrounds, and socialize more successfully.
Our Community Health and Agriculture Education teams have collaborated to develop the new Food Shuttle Academy, an online learning platform with free, self-paced lessons on health, nutrition, agriculture, and more!
Our Spring Match challenge, made possible by generous funders, including SOLV Energy and the Mead Family Foundation, exceeded the $105,000 goal, raising an additional $70,000 to erase hunger!
Love, Tito’s has a heart for community gardens and increasing access to fresh, healthy foods. Their philanthropic Love, Tito’s Block to Block program, reconnects neighborhoods and creates community gardens and farms throughout the United States. Our hearts are in full bloom knowing that our Camden Street Garden will be the next beneficiary of Block to Block, allowing neighbors with mobility challenges to access our many activities more easily.
A Tucson, Arizona, urban farm brings residents better nutrition and builds community. It’s a win-win. An example of a different agricultural approach is Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, which serves seven North Carolina counties, recovering and gleaning about 6 million pounds of food a year that would otherwise have gone to waste.
NEWS & OBSERVER - The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle has long been a force of good in Raleigh, redistributing unused food from restaurants, grocery stores and other retail businesses to programs and organizations that feed the hungry.
This past Saturday marked the grand opening of the IFFS On-Farm Produce Stand, which will now be open every Thursday and Friday from noon-6pm and every Saturday from 9am-1pm. We will be selling our organically-grown produce harvested daily from the farm and eggs from our happy, pasture-raised hens. This weekend, the stand overflowed with gorgeous carrots (including the two lovers below), romaine lettuce, curly kale, baby kale (great for kale chips!), swiss chard, braising mix, deliciously peppery arugula, asparagus, garden peas, green onions, cilantro, and herbs for transplanting.
Also for sale were some homemade items and books made and written by one of our newest volunteers and incubator farmers, Elizabeth Mann.
The stand is located at the corner of Tryon Road and Dover Farm Road (next to the IFFS Teaching Farm at 4505 Tyron Rd) in Raleigh, on the right. Just look for the signs!

You can also find our produce and eggs each Saturday morning 8am-noon at the Midtown Raleigh Farmers Market at North Hills Commons.
