At the beginning of 2021, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle will launch a pilot program to address various facets surrounding the issue of senior hunger. The Food Access and Education for Rural Seniors (FAERS) program will serve seniors living with Type 2 Diabetes in Chatham and Johnston counties.

Community Health Education offers Cooking Matters classes to teach members of our community strategies for preparing nutritious meals on a budget. As a partner for more than 15 years, Food Lion Feeds and Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation have invested in the mission of Inter-Faith Food Shuttle in a variety of ways. This year, the grocery store chain and its charitable foundation, based in Salisbury, NC, have gone far and beyond in their support of Food Shuttle programming with multiple generous grants, donations, and ongoing support. In total, Food Lion has provided over $142,000 in funds and thousands of dollars in gift cards and product to support the Food Shuttle’s efforts to end hunger.

My name is Carly and I am an AmeriCorps Food Distribution Associate serving at Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. Grocery Bags for Seniors (GBS) is one of the longest running programs at the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and has some of our most loyal volunteers. The program provides groceries delivered door-to-door by volunteers to address factors such as fixed income, social isolation, and food access.
