Durham church partner puts food on the table for more than 500 families each week
Every Tuesday, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle delivers over 4,000 pounds of food to Iglesia Hispana Emanuel for their weekly food distribution. The church community relies on the donation to serve the vast number of families it feeds each week. What began as a small food pantry ten years ago, serving around 60 families, skyrocketed when COVID-19 struck, rapidly growing to 70, 100, 200…500 families.
The Spinning Plate food truck serves hot meals to neighbors monthly at Grace Church Raleigh
Grace Church Raleigh is a regular stop on The Spinning Plate’s schedule, where Food Truck Manager Josh Maple and Production Cook Dajai Johnson serve up free hot meals prepared fresh for the community. The connection between The Spinning Plate—an initiative of Inter-Faith Food Shuttle—and Grace Church Raleigh is a natural one since the partnership between the Food Shuttle and Grace Church goes back many years.
New Crops Popping Up at the Food Shuttle Farm
Brand new crops are popping up at the Food Shuttle Farm this year include poblano and cayenne peppers, tomatillos, and chayote squash. These crops are grown specifically for the Latinx community served through Food Shuttle distribution outlets.
Cole Martin: Volunteering Wholeheartedly Around the Food Shuttle Programs
Cole Martin started volunteering with the Food Shuttle in August 2020, after his place of work, AECOM, put out a call to employees. He helped out on the Food Shuttle Farm for a day, enjoyed the time outdoors, and heard about the many programs of Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. With a curiosity to see the various parts of the organization in action, he started signing up to help with different programs ranging from agriculture to food distribution.
Food Lion Feeds Great Pantry Restock Fills Shelves
The shelves are full at Western Wake Crisis Ministry Food Pantry in Apex, NC these days. That’s thanks to a grant from the sixth annual Food Lion Feeds Great Pantry Makeover pantry restock. Food Lion recognizes the importance of keeping the shelves of feeding agencies across their ten-state footprint and has committed to provide them with nutritious food that will help nourish neighbors in need.
Host a Virtual Food Drive This Holiday Season
As the end of 2020 approaches, and corporations, church groups and individuals increase their philanthropic giving, food drives will be a traditional part of these efforts. This year—an uncertain and unprecedented time—Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is encouraging groups and individuals to consider holding Virtual Food Drives as part of their Year End giving efforts.
