Nearly one year ago, I wrote my first newsletter to you and thanked you for your warm welcome and your continued commitment to our mission here at Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. At that time, we were at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, witnessing the pain and sadness in the aftermath of the events in Minneapolis, where thousands of our neighbors found themselves in a very dark situation. One year ago, I embraced that challenge knowing we had your continued support, and today, I continue to be grateful.
Carolina Hurricanes Foundation Faces Off Against Child Hunger
The partnership between the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation and the Food Shuttle is entering the second of a three-year agreement that sets its sights on tackling the issue of child hunger in rural communities and is supported through the aptly named GOAL Grant with generous total funding of $150,000.

Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s Grocery Bags for Seniors program serves low-income seniors with quality, nutritious food to help alleviate food insecurity and the risk of malnutrition. In 2019, the Food Shuttle was selected as a Rooted in Evidence grantee by the Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition.
Highlighting Blue Cross NC as Key 2020 Community Partner
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina was one of the first major donors to step up and provide funding to kickstart emergency response efforts to stave off hunger for those impacted by the pandemic. Their nimble response to support the Food Shuttle is just one of the many initiatives that distinguish Blue Cross NC as a strategic partner in the Food Shuttle’s mission to end hunger.

Food Lion Partnership with Inter-Faith Food Shuttle Goes Further in 2020
As a partner for more than 15 years, Food Lion Feeds and Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation have invested in the mission of Inter-Faith Food Shuttle in a variety of ways. This year, the grocery store chain and its charitable foundation, based in Salisbury, NC, have gone far and beyond in their support of Food Shuttle programming with multiple generous grants, donations, and ongoing support. In total, Food Lion has provided over $142,000 in funds and thousands of dollars in gift cards and product to support the Food Shuttle’s efforts to end hunger.

Chatham County Mobile Market Served 1,500 Households
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle held the Chatham County COVID-19 Mobile Market on June 4th at St. Julia Catholic Church in Siler City. Word of the event spread through flyers, social media, email and word of mouth throughout the month prior. The goal was to provide food to 1,500 households during the five hours of the drive-thru Market, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
