Food Shuttle Launches Program to Address Senior Hunger

At the beginning of 2021, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle will launch a pilot program to address various facets surrounding the issue of senior hunger. The Food Access and Education for Rural Seniors (FAERS) program will serve seniors living with Type 2 Diabetes in Chatham and Johnston counties.

Families recently gathered safely to prepare healthy recipes in the open air at Camden Street Learning Garden. Community Health Education offers Cooking Matters classes to teach members of our community strategies for preparing nutritious meals on a budget. The class was delivered in Spanish to welcome families from the Latinx community into the space.

My Experiences as an AmeriCorps Member at Inter-Faith Food Shuttle

My name is Carly and I am an AmeriCorps Food Distribution Associate serving at Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. Thanks to a partnership between the Conservation Trust for North Carolina and the NC Commission on Volunteerism, my position was created in response to the coronavirus pandemic to assist the Food Shuttle with getting food into the hands of individuals and families that need it.

Inter-Faith Food Shuttle Wraps Up Summer Meals Program

This summer, for the first time, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle sponsored the national Summer Food Service Program, also known as Summer Meals, to combat these food needs for five weeks during the summer months. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle partnered with 17 different Raleigh Parks and Recreation summer camp sites as a means of getting nutritious meals to children who might otherwise have to go without.

Get to Know Our Programs: Grocery Bags for Seniors

Grocery Bags for Seniors (GBS) is one of the longest running programs at the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and has some of our most loyal volunteers. The program provides groceries delivered door-to-door by volunteers to address factors such as fixed income, social isolation, and food access.

BARBECUE CHAMPIONS TEAM UP AGAINST HUNGER

On Friday, April 17, eight of the barbecue cooks from the Whole Hog Barbecue Series spread out in the parking lot of the Vernon Malone Center—home to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle—to set up their pits and cook up 150 pork barbecue shoulders donated by the North Carolina Pork Council and the National Pork Board.
