Taking a Bite Out of Hunger One Month at a Time
Giles Shih still remembers the haunting statistic on hunger from 13 years ago that 1 in 5 children in our community goes to bed hungry. For Giles, that was a call to action and it’s what motivated him to make his first donation to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. He’s been a faithful supporter of the Food Shuttle ever since. Then last October, Giles signed up to be a sustaining monthly donor. With the understanding that such contributions provide reliable support for the Food Shuttle’s efforts to create a hunger free community, Giles became a Cultivator.
Garden Grows Sense of Community for Neighbors Living in Transitional Housing
How does a collection of temporary residents in a transitional housing project become a community of neighbors? For the Hotel to Home bridge housing program of Reinvestment Partners, the effort to do so centers on a garden—or more specifically, two garden beds. The garden beds were built a year ago by staff and volunteers of Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s Gardens For Everyone project at the Carolina Duke Inn in Durham.

Durham Preschool Gardens For Everyone Project Grows Vegetables, Chickens, and Imaginations
Many hands make light work in the garden at Brown’s Early Learning School. And though a good number of those hands are small, the harvest the garden brings forth is rich and bountiful and filled with good things that big and little people like to eat. The Durham preschool is home to ten garden beds provided by Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s Gardens For Everyone program.
Love, Tito’s Block to Block program funds new greenhouse, increasing produce for neighbors in need
The most recent project with Inter-Faith Food Shuttle includes the construction of a new greenhouse at the Food Shuttle Farm. In 2020, the Love, Tito’s program provided funding to support the first part of the greenhouse project, following up in 2021 with additional support to finish the construction of the greenhouse. These donations fully funded the greenhouse and provided continued support for the Food Shuttle Farm’s other agricultural programs.
Under Construction: The Food Shuttle’s New Community Garden
Fabette Smith was convinced that her community needed to have an available source with which to grow their own food. She turned to an organization long known for their gardening expertise, and for working with neighbors to create sustainable food sources—Inter-Faith Food Shuttle—and together, they’re growing a new community garden in southeast Raleigh.
