Valerie Hocutt wears a lot of hats as property manager at Creekridge Apartments and Middlesex Manor in Middlesex, NC. When the pandemic hit, Valerie saw her community take on additional struggles, including job loss, health scares, and food shortages. That’s why it was such a blessing when Jill McKeel and Midpoint Church, through partnership with Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, stepped forward with monthly distributions of food boxes for the families under Valerie’s watch.

Every Tuesday, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle delivers over 4,000 pounds of food to Iglesia Hispana Emanuel for their weekly food distribution. The church community relies on the donation to serve the vast number of families it feeds each week. What began as a small food pantry ten years ago, serving around 60 families, skyrocketed when COVID-19 struck, rapidly growing to 70, 100, 200…500 families.

She turned to an organization long known for their gardening expertise, and for working with neighbors to create sustainable food sources—Inter-Faith Food Shuttle—and together, they’re growing a new community garden in southeast Raleigh.

Christy Perrin and her seven-year-old son Donovan started raising chickens. But when one raises chickens, one eventually ends up with eggs. So, when the eggs came along, Christy and Donovan decided to sell them and raise money for charity, and their charity of choice was Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.

During the Spring Match, April 1 through May 31, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s community rallied together to raise over $313,000. When added to the $125,000 in matching funds provided by the Mead Family Foundation and Citrix, over $438,000 was raised in an amazing effort in just two short months.
